Tragic Shooting in Lafourche Parish Claims Lives of Draven Hendon and Jordan Landry
Lafourche Parish, LA — July 5, 2025
In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 5, a heartbreaking tragedy struck Lafourche Parish, leaving two families devastated and the broader community in a state of sorrow and disbelief. The violent incident claimed the lives of Draven Hendon, 30, of Thibodaux, and Jordan Landry, 22, of Houma, in what authorities have described as a fatal shooting that continues to be actively investigated.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that deputies were dispatched to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in a residential area just outside of Thibodaux. Upon arrival, officers found two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
💔 Two Lives Lost Too Soon
Draven Hendon, remembered by loved ones as a thoughtful, loyal, and creative spirit, was a well-known figure in Thibodaux. Friends describe him as someone who carried deep empathy for others and had a passion for art, music, and the culture of South Louisiana. He worked in local media production and had dreams of launching a community-based arts initiative for local youth.
Jordan Landry, only 22, was just beginning his adult life. From Houma, Jordan had recently completed a vocational certification and was preparing to start a job in industrial maintenance. His family remembers him as kind-hearted, eager to help others, and fiercely protective of those he loved. He had an infectious laugh, a strong sense of humor, and aspirations of starting his own family one day.
Their families — bound together now by shared grief — are struggling to make sense of a loss that feels both senseless and cruel.
“Draven was one of the most genuine souls you could ever meet,” said his cousin, Alicia Hendon. “He wanted nothing more than peace and community — to uplift others. To lose him like this is unthinkable.”
“Jordan had such a bright light,” shared his older sister, Tiana Landry. “He always told me he wanted to do right by our mom and make something of himself. Now he’ll never get that chance.”
🔍 Investigation Ongoing
As of Saturday evening, law enforcement had not released specific details about what led up to the deadly shooting, but investigators believe it may have stemmed from an altercation that escalated into violence. Authorities have not yet announced any arrests or named suspects, though they have confirmed that several individuals are being questioned.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the events leading up to the shooting to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region.
“We are working diligently to piece together the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome,” said Sheriff Craig Webre in a statement. “Two young men lost their lives far too soon. We owe their families answers — and justice.”
🕯️ Community in Mourning
The ripple effects of this tragedy are being felt throughout Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. Community members have begun leaving candles, flowers, and handwritten notes at a makeshift memorial near the scene of the shooting. Social media has been flooded with tributes, photos, and heartfelt messages of remembrance.
A joint vigil is being organized for later this week, bringing together friends and loved ones from both Thibodaux and Houma in a united show of love, prayer, and solidarity.
Churches and local organizations have stepped forward to provide grief counseling and support resources for those affected by the incident. The local NAACP chapter and several community leaders are also calling for renewed conversations about conflict resolution, gun violence prevention, and healing across communities.
This Fourth of July weekend — a time usually marked by celebration and unity — has instead become a period of mourning for two families who must now bury their sons.
Rest in peace, Draven Hendon and Jordan Landry.
