Sami Liber ATV Accident: Brentwood Parents Honor Teen’s Legacy by Uplifting Local Youth Through the Arts

On August 8, 2024, the Brentwood community was struck by tragedy when 16-year-old Sami Liber, a beloved student at Brentwood School, lost her life in an ATV accident during a family trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Sami, who had just celebrated her 16th birthday and was eagerly anticipating her junior year, was a passionate artist, dedicated student, and compassionate friend. Her sudden passing left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her.

A Legacy of Creativity and Compassion

Sami’s artistic talents were evident from a young age. She expressed herself through sketching, painting, photography, and music, always finding new ways to capture the beauty around her. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Sami was deeply involved in her community. She worked part-time at the Brentwood General Store and volunteered with Allies For Every Child, teaching art to underserved students. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who encountered her.

The SAMI Foundation: Supporting Artistic Minds Through Inspiration

In the wake of Sami’s passing, her parents, Rodney and Carla Liber, established the SAMI Foundation to honor their daughter’s legacy. The foundation’s mission is to support under-resourced youth in the arts, providing art supplies, scholarships, and workshops in photography, visual arts, and design. The foundation’s name, SAMI, stands for “Supporting Artistic Minds through Inspiration,” reflecting Sami’s passion for creativity and her desire to inspire others.

Since its inception, the SAMI Foundation has partnered with several educational and charitable organizations, including the Los Angeles Academy for Artists and Music Production, KIPP Public Charter Schools, United in Harmony, and Baby2Baby. One of the foundation’s signature initiatives involves distributing curated art kits featuring Sami’s original artwork. These kits are designed to provide children with a creative outlet in the wake of trauma, such as the recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Students at Altadena Arts Magnet School were among the first to receive the kits.

Community Support and Healing

The Brentwood community has come together to support the Liber family and honor Sami’s memory. A memorial event held at the Brentwood School upper campus featured Sami’s artwork and included speeches from her teachers, parents, and friends. Attendees shared stories, photos, and videos that captured Sami’s vibrant spirit. The event provided a space for healing and reflection, allowing the community to celebrate Sami’s life and legacy.

Continuing Sami’s Mission

Through the SAMI Foundation, the Liber family continues to fulfill Sami’s mission of uplifting local youth through the arts. By providing resources and inspiration to young artists, the foundation ensures that Sami’s spirit lives on, touching the lives of countless individuals. The foundation’s work serves as a testament to the enduring impact of Sami’s creativity, compassion, and dedication to making the world a more beautiful place.

As the anniversary of Sami’s passing approaches, the Brentwood community remains united in its commitment to honoring her memory and continuing her work. Through the SAMI Foundation, Sami’s legacy continues to inspire and uplift local youth, ensuring that her light continues to shine brightly.
