Four Men Injured in Kalihi Drive-By Shooting; Police Searching for Suspects

Honolulu, HI – July 5, 2025
A peaceful early morning in Kalihi was shattered by gunfire when a group of men were targeted in a drive-by shooting that left four individuals injured and a neighborhood on edge. The Honolulu Police Department is actively investigating the violent incident, which occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday near a residential area along Kalihi Street.

According to police and preliminary witness reports, the victims — all adult males — were standing near the roadside when a pickup truck drove past them at a slow pace. Suddenly, multiple gunshots rang out from the vehicle, striking the men before the truck sped away from the scene. Residents who were startled awake by the gunfire immediately called 911, prompting a rapid response by first responders and patrol units.

🚑 Victims Rushed to the Hospital

Emergency medical personnel arrived within minutes and began treating the injured victims, some of whom were reportedly bleeding heavily. All four men were transported to nearby hospitals — two in serious condition, while the other two were listed in stable condition as of Saturday morning.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, citing ongoing notification of family members, but confirmed that all four are local residents of the Kalihi area and were known to each other.

🔍 Ongoing Investigation and Search for Suspects

The Honolulu Police Department has launched an intensive investigation into the shooting. Detectives canvassed the area throughout the early morning hours, collecting shell casings, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses.

“We are following up on several leads, and we’re working to identify the individuals responsible for this senseless act of violence,” said Capt. Leilani Kanoa, speaking to reporters at the scene. “This kind of gun violence is deeply troubling, especially when it happens in the heart of our neighborhoods.”

Police have not yet made any arrests or released a description of the suspect(s), though they have confirmed that the vehicle used in the shooting was a dark-colored pickup truck, possibly a newer model Ford or Chevrolet. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area between Kalihi Street and North King Street around the time of the shooting to come forward.

🌺 Community Shaken but Resilient

Kalihi, a densely populated and culturally vibrant neighborhood, is no stranger to challenges, but many residents say they’ve never experienced violence like this in their own backyard.

“This is a tight-knit community,” said longtime resident Tommy Latu, who lives a block from the shooting. “To hear shots fired right outside your home — it’s terrifying. We have kids here. Elders. This can’t become normal.”

Several community leaders, including local councilmembers and clergy, have already begun organizing neighborhood safety meetings and support services for families affected by the trauma of the shooting.

Kalihi Union Church and Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV) health center have both issued statements offering counseling resources and trauma support. A vigil is also being planned for Sunday evening in honor of the victims and to call for peace in the community.

As police continue to search for the individuals responsible, the Kalihi neighborhood is left to pick up the emotional pieces from yet another senseless act of violence.

Anyone with information — no matter how small — is urged to come forward. The safety and healing of this beloved community depend on collective action, vigilance, and justice for the victims of this devastating attack.
