Caleb Cox Indicted in Harrison Township Domestic Violence Shooting on Lodell Avenue

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, OH — A Montgomery County grand jury has indicted 28-year-old Caleb Cox in connection with a violent domestic shooting that occurred earlier this month on Lodell Avenue in Harrison Township, drawing renewed attention to the ongoing crisis of domestic violence in the community.

The incident, which unfolded on the evening of June 15, 2025, left a 27-year-old woman hospitalized with serious injuries after she was allegedly shot by Cox during a domestic dispute inside a residence in the 4400 block of Lodell Avenue. Authorities say the shooting stemmed from an argument that escalated quickly, resulting in a terrifying and near-fatal confrontation.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to multiple 911 calls around 9:30 p.m. reporting gunfire and screaming. When they arrived on the scene, they found the female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. She was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery and has since been listed in stable condition. Her name is being withheld due to the nature of the domestic violence case.

Caleb Cox, who fled the scene following the shooting, was apprehended less than 24 hours later after a manhunt involving local law enforcement and federal marshals. He was taken into custody without incident and has remained in the Montgomery County Jail since his arrest.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office announced this week that Cox has been formally indicted on multiple felony charges, including:

  • Felonious Assault (with a firearm specification)

  • Domestic Violence

  • Having Weapons While Under Disability

  • Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle

Prosecutors also revealed that Cox has a prior criminal record, including a previous conviction that legally prohibits him from possessing a firearm. The indictment alleges that he not only violated that restriction but also put the lives of others in jeopardy by firing a weapon in a residential neighborhood.

“This case highlights the dangerous consequences of domestic violence and the serious threat posed when firearms are involved,” said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. “We are committed to seeking justice for the victim and ensuring that this individual is held fully accountable under the law.”

Neighbors in the Lodell Avenue area described the night of the shooting as chaotic and traumatic. Several residents told reporters they heard shouting moments before the gunfire erupted. One neighbor, who declined to be named, said, “It was terrifying. We have kids in this neighborhood. It’s hard to believe something like that could happen just a few doors down.”

The shooting has prompted renewed calls for stronger community-based domestic violence prevention efforts and more support services for survivors. Local advocates are encouraging anyone experiencing abuse or threats to seek help from domestic violence hotlines and shelters, many of which offer 24/7 services and emergency relocation support.

Cox is scheduled to appear in court next week for arraignment. If convicted on all counts, he faces the possibility of decades behind bars.

The victim’s family has expressed gratitude to first responders and the medical team that helped save her life, and they are now focused on her recovery. “This has been a nightmare,” a relative said. “But we’re thankful she’s alive and getting stronger every day.”

As the legal process moves forward, the case of Caleb Cox serves as a stark reminder of the danger posed by domestic violence and the urgent need to address it with prevention, protection, and accountability. Community members, law enforcement, and victim advocates alike are calling for increased vigilance and compassion as they work to support survivors and reduce violence in homes across Montgomery County.
