Bayou Academy Mourns Loss of Two Students in Tragic Bolivar County Crash

Cleveland, MS – July 8, 2025
The Bayou Academy community is in shock after a fatal collision early Tuesday morning claimed the lives of two teenage students. Around 7:00 a.m., the students were involved in a crash on Yale Street with a Bolivar County Sheriff’s deputy, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol

  • A 2019 Dodge Ram driven by a 29-year-old deputy struck a 1986 Toyota truck carrying the two Bayou Academy boys.

  • Both teens—driver and passenger—were pronounced dead at the scene.

  • The deputy sustained moderate injuries and was treated on-site


🕊️ Remembering Joshua “Josh” Benjamin Willoughby

  • Born: August 15, 2008

  • A rising senior at Bayou Academy and a standout athlete—playing defensive end on the football team, a swimmer, and soccer team member.

  • Worked at Delta Dog House, where he shared his love for animals

  • Visitation: Thursday, July 10, from 12 – 1 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home.

  • Celebration of Life: 1 PM same day, with burial at New Cleveland Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Park Neff

Ryder Houser, also a student at Bayou Academy, was traveling with Josh in the Toyota and tragically died as well. Details regarding Ryder’s funeral arrangements are pending family announcement
