Targeted Shooting in Hamilton’s East End Sparks Investigation — No Injuries Reported
HAMILTON, ON — A targeted shooting incident in the early hours of Tuesday, July 2, 2025, has sparked concern and heightened police presence in Hamilton’s East End. While no injuries were reported, the event has rattled local residents and prompted an active investigation by the Hamilton Police Service.
According to officials, officers were dispatched at approximately 3:40 a.m. following multiple reports of gunshots near the intersection of Case Street and Lottridge Street. Upon arrival, police located evidence consistent with gunfire, including shell casings scattered on the road and damage to at least one parked vehicle and a nearby residence. No individuals were found injured at the scene, and there have been no reports of anyone seeking medical treatment as a result of the incident.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, rather than random, but have not disclosed who the intended victim may have been or what the motive might be. Officers canvassed the neighborhood shortly after the event, speaking with witnesses and collecting video surveillance from nearby homes and businesses.
Residents of the quiet East End neighborhood expressed alarm and frustration over the incident, which disrupted what was otherwise a peaceful holiday week. “We heard the shots and hit the floor,” said one homeowner, who asked not to be named. “It’s scary to think something like this can happen so close to home. We have kids here.”
The Hamilton Police Service has since increased patrols in the area and assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to community safety. However, they are urging anyone with information to come forward. In particular, they are requesting dashcam footage, home surveillance, or any eyewitness accounts from those in the area around the time of the shooting.
“This was a brazen act that could have had far more tragic consequences,” said Detective Sergeant Lisa Chambers of the Hamilton Police Major Crime Unit. “We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness and are pursuing all investigative leads.”
Community advocates are calling on city officials to further invest in violence prevention and outreach programs, particularly in areas that have experienced increasing levels of gun-related crime in recent months.
City Councillor Matthew Green released a statement condemning the violence and offering support for both residents and the ongoing investigation. “We must work together — law enforcement, government, and community — to prevent gun violence before it happens. A stray bullet doesn’t know the difference between a target and a child,” Green said.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Hamilton Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Detective Office at 905-546-2919 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppershamilton.com.
While the physical damage may have been minimal, the emotional toll on the community is significant. Residents hope that swift justice and increased vigilance can restore a sense of peace and safety to their neighborhood.
