Motorcyclist Identified as 26-Year-Old Tedrick Tremin in Fatal Sand Lake Crash

Sand Lake, MI — The Kent County Sheriff’s Office has officially identified the motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a crash near Sand Lake as 26-year-old Tedrick Tremin, a beloved local resident. The fatal accident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2025, leaving behind a community in mourning and a family grappling with an unimaginable loss.

According to officials, deputies were dispatched to the area of Ritchie Avenue NE near 18 Mile Road in Nelson Township shortly after 6:30 a.m., after a passerby reported a damaged motorcycle lying in a ditch. Upon arrival, emergency responders located Tremin near the wreckage, and despite immediate lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations suggest that Tremin may have lost control of his motorcycle sometime overnight, with the crash likely going unnoticed for several hours before being discovered. Authorities believe speed may have been a factor, but the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Traffic Bureau has launched a thorough review of the crash site, and accident reconstruction specialists have been deployed to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal incident. Officials are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby residences and businesses and are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual Monday night to come forward.

Tedrick Tremin, known to friends and family as “Teddy,” was a lifelong resident of the Sand Lake area. A graduate of Tri County High School, he was described as energetic, adventurous, and always ready with a smile or a helping hand. He had a deep passion for motorcycles and the open road—a love that friends say gave him a sense of freedom and peace.

“Tedrick had a wild spirit but a kind heart,” said longtime friend Jeremy Collins. “He was fearless, but he also cared deeply about the people in his life. This is a devastating loss for all of us who knew him.”

Tremin worked as a skilled welder and mechanic, often lending his expertise to neighbors and friends in need. Outside of work, he loved outdoor adventures—fishing, camping, and riding his bike across Michigan’s scenic backroads were among his favorite pastimes.

His family released a brief statement expressing their sorrow: “Tedrick brought light into our lives, and his loss leaves a void we can never fill. We are heartbroken, and we ask for privacy as we grieve and try to come to terms with this tragedy.”

A roadside memorial has begun to take shape at the crash site, with friends and loved ones placing flowers, candles, and handwritten notes in honor of Tremin’s life. A candlelight vigil is being planned for later this week in Sand Lake, where community members will gather to remember a young man whose life was cut tragically short.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Anyone with information that could aid the investigation is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Traffic Bureau at (616) 632-6100.

As the investigation proceeds, the Sand Lake community is left grappling with the sudden loss of a bright and spirited soul. Tedrick Tremin’s legacy will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched in his 26 short years.
