Arthur Hicks Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Thomas Harris on Main Street in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls, NY – July 2, 2025 — The Niagara Falls Police Department has confirmed the arrest of 53-year-old Arthur Hicks in connection with the fatal stabbing of 34-year-old Thomas Harris late Monday night. The deadly incident unfolded near the 900 block of Main Street and has left the local community shocked and grieving.

Officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before midnight on June 30 after receiving a 911 call reporting a stabbing. Upon arrival, responding units discovered Harris suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite the immediate efforts of first responders and emergency medical personnel, Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area was quickly secured as detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) launched a full-scale investigation. Crime scene tape cordoned off the area overnight, and forensic teams worked meticulously to collect physical evidence, interview witnesses, and review surveillance footage from nearby businesses and street cameras.

Through rapid investigative efforts, law enforcement identified Arthur Hicks—who is believed to have had a prior connection to Harris—as the prime suspect. Authorities have not yet publicly disclosed the exact motive behind the stabbing, but sources familiar with the investigation indicate that the two men may have had a personal dispute that escalated into violence.

Hicks was located and taken into custody without incident on the morning of July 2. He has since been formally charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Niagara County Jail pending arraignment. Additional charges may be considered as the investigation progresses.

In a statement released by the Niagara Falls Police Department, officials praised the swift coordination of detectives and crime scene specialists in bringing the case to a rapid resolution. “This was a senseless and tragic act of violence,” said Police Superintendent John Faso. “Our thoughts are with Mr. Harris’ family and loved ones. I want to commend the tireless work of our CID and CSU teams, who acted quickly and professionally to apprehend the individual responsible and bring some measure of justice.”

Thomas Harris, a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, is being remembered by friends and family as a warm-hearted and hardworking individual who loved his community. Social media tributes describe him as a devoted father, a loyal friend, and someone who always tried to help others, even during his own challenges.

“My brother didn’t deserve this,” wrote one family member in a public post. “He had a tough life, but he was trying to turn things around. He had a big heart, and now it’s been taken away from all of us far too soon.”

Neighbors in the Main Street area have expressed concerns over what they say is a rise in violent crime in recent months. Monday’s stabbing has prompted renewed calls for increased community policing efforts and expanded mental health outreach, especially among at-risk populations in the city’s urban core.

As detectives continue to gather evidence and prepare for court proceedings, the Niagara Falls Police Department has asked anyone with additional information or eyewitness accounts related to the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the department’s Crime Stoppers hotline.

A candlelight vigil is being planned in memory of Thomas Harris, with details to be announced by his family in the coming days.

The investigation remains active, and more updates will follow as the case moves through the judicial system. In the meantime, the city of Niagara Falls mourns the loss of another life to violence and stands in support of the loved ones left behind.
