Motorcyclist Identified as 64-Year-Old Thomas Pruitt in Fatal West Charlotte Crash
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A tragic crash Monday night in west Charlotte has claimed the life of a local motorcyclist. Authorities with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed that 64-year-old Thomas Pruitt was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Paw Creek Road near Toddville Road.
The Collision
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on August 25, 2025, when officers were called to reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle. Upon arrival, first responders found Pruitt lying unresponsive next to his motorcycle, which had fallen onto its side in the roadway.
Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Pruitt was pronounced dead at the scene. CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit was immediately dispatched to begin piecing together the circumstances leading to the collision.
What Investigators Know
According to preliminary reports, Pruitt was traveling along Paw Creek Road when the crash occurred involving another vehicle. Police have not yet released the identity of the second driver but confirmed that they remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
Detectives are currently working to determine contributing factors, such as speed, right-of-way, visibility, or possible impairment. Authorities did not immediately confirm whether charges will be filed but noted that the investigation remains active.
Road Closures and Scene Response
The crash prompted the temporary closure of Paw Creek Road near Toddville Road as investigators documented the scene, collected evidence, and cleared debris from the roadway. Traffic was diverted for several hours before the area was reopened late Monday night.
CMPD crash reconstruction specialists used mapping technology, witness statements, and vehicle examinations to recreate the sequence of events leading to Pruitt’s fatal injuries.

Watching for motorcycles, especially at intersections.

Allowing extra following distance when driving behind riders.

Motorcyclists wearing helmets and high-visibility gear.
With more vehicles on the road in late summer and early fall, CMPD urges drivers to remain vigilant and avoid distractions to prevent further tragedies.
