In Loving Memory of Brianna Morris: A Tragic Loss of a Bright Young Life
The Carthage community is mourning the sudden loss of Brianna Morris, a 16-year-old sophomore at Carthage High School, who tragically passed away in a car accident on the night of Thursday, August 7, 2025. The incident occurred on West Fairview Avenue, approximately two miles west of Carthage, when a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado veered off the left side of the roadway, striking a fence and a tree. While the 18-year-old driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Carthage, Brianna was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Coroner James Harrison .
A Bright Student with a Passion for Life
Brianna was known for her vibrant personality and her dedication to her studies. As a sophomore at Carthage High School, she was actively involved in various school activities and was well-liked by her peers and teachers alike. Her enthusiasm for learning and her kind-hearted nature left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
A Community in Mourning
The loss of Brianna has deeply affected the Carthage community. The Carthage R-9 School District issued a statement expressing their sorrow and offering support to students and staff during this difficult time. Counselors will be available in the CHS Media Center on Monday, August 11, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, with additional support available throughout the week as needed
