Wheatland Community Mourns Mark and Dory Weis — Beloved Couple Tragically Dies One Day Apart After Motorcycle Accident
It is with deepest sorrow that the community of Wheatland and the greater Burlington area mourns the sudden loss of Mark and Dory Weis, who passed away just one day apart following a tragic motorcycle accident. Though they lived full and vibrant lives, their unexpected departure on July 5 and 6, 2025, has left a profound void in the hearts of family, friends, and neighbors.
❤️🩹 A Shared Life of Love
For over five decades, Mark and Dory were inseparable—partners in every sense. Those who knew them best spoke of a love that exemplified true partnership: through joys and trials, adventure and routines, hope and grief. Whether hosting family gatherings in their warm Burlington home or traveling the country on their motorcycle, their bond was inspiring—built on mutual respect, laughter, and an unwavering sense of togetherness.
👨👩👧 Devoted to Family and Community
They leave behind a legacy of love and care:
-
A loving family: They are survived by their three children—David (Karen), Emily (Peter), and Susan (Brian)—and ten adoring grandchildren who were blessed with summer nights on the porch listening to Grandpa’s jokes and Grandma’s stories.
-
Active lives past retirement: Even in their 70s, Mark and Dory were full of life. They were familiar faces at church gatherings, community potlucks, and social events. Their generosity made them pillars in Wheatland—always ready to lend help, an encouraging word, or a listening ear.
Mark volunteered weekly with the local Salvation Army chapter, driving families to appointments. Dory was known for cultivating her home-grown vegetables and sharing them with neighbors, and organizing monthly bridge nights to bring people together.
🏍️ Tragedy Strikes
On the afternoon of July 5, Mark was involved in a severe motorcycle crash near Highway 36, sustaining critical injuries. Despite prompt rescue efforts, he passed away at the scene. Overwhelmed with shock and grief, and as she prepared to lay Mark to rest, Dory unexpectedly fell ill on July 6 and suffered a fatal medical event.
Their back-to-back passings have left a stunned and heartbroken community. Many are asking how two lives so intertwined could end so closely together—underscoring, even in sorrow, the profound bond they shared.
🕯️ Honoring Their Legacy
A joint memorial service will be held on July 14, 2025, at the Wheatland Community Church. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mark and Dory’s lives together—reflecting on their love, devotion, and radiant presence.
In lieu of flowers, the Weis family encourages donations to two organizations dear to Mark and Dory’s hearts:
-
Local Salvation Army chapter, supporting the work Mark was passionate about
-
Wheatland Food Pantry, continuing Dory’s lifelong generosity through fresh produce donations
