Elderly Abilene Couple Robert and Joni Brake Missing After Devastating Floods at Kerrville Campground

An elderly couple, Robert and Joni Brake of Abilene, Texas, is currently missing from HTR TX Hill Country Camp in Kerrville, Texas. The couple was staying at the campground during the Fourth of July weekend when devastating flash floods swept through the area early on July 4, 2025.

The Tragic Flooding Incident

Around 4:30 a.m. on July 4, floodwaters surged through the HTR TX Hill Country Campground near Ingram, Texas, following heavy rainfall. According to their son, Robert Brake Jr., his brother called him at 4:30 a.m. reporting that his RV was flooding and being swept away at the campground. While the brother managed to escape, his RV and truck were carried downstream. When he reached the location, all the structures had vanished, and multiple tiny homes and RVs were found wrapped around trees and broken apart downstream.

The search for Robert and Joni Brake continues as part of a broader effort to locate missing individuals in the wake of the catastrophic flooding. As of July 6, at least 68 deaths have been confirmed in Kerr County alone, including 28 children. Additionally, 41 people remain missing statewide, including 10 girls and a counselor from Camp Mystic. Rescue teams using helicopters, boats, and drones have saved over 850 individuals and continue to search for survivors.
