One Person Killed in Crash at US Highway 14 and County Highway K in Walworth County

TOWN OF SHARON, WI — July 3, 2025
A fatal crash in Walworth County claimed the life of one person Thursday afternoon, prompting a swift response from local emergency services and an ongoing investigation by law enforcement.

According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and County Highway K in the Town of Sharon. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following multiple 911 calls reporting a serious accident involving two vehicles.

Upon arrival, first responders found one vehicle with significant front-end damage and another partially off the roadway. One person, whose identity has not yet been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not disclosed whether the victim was a driver or passenger.

Another individual sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. Their condition has not been made public.

Investigation Ongoing

Traffic in the area was temporarily closed in all directions as investigators worked to reconstruct the scene. Deputies from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, alongside members of the Town of Sharon Fire Department and EMS crews, remained on site for several hours.

Preliminary reports indicate that the crash may have involved a failure to yield at the intersection, but officials have not confirmed any cause and say all contributing factors — including speed, visibility, and possible impairment — are being considered.

“We are treating this as an active investigation,” said a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office. “Our crash reconstruction team is working to determine exactly how the events unfolded.”

Community Impact

The deadly crash has shaken residents in the rural Town of Sharon, a small community situated in western Walworth County near the Illinois border. Locals say the intersection of US 14 and County K has long been considered hazardous due to high traffic speeds and limited sight lines.

“There have been accidents there before,” said one resident who lives nearby. “It’s a busy junction, especially during the late afternoon when people are heading home. It’s heartbreaking to see someone lose their life like this.”

Authorities are urging motorists to use extra caution when approaching rural intersections, especially during peak travel hours and holiday weekends.

The name of the deceased victim is expected to be released following notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact their non-emergency line at 262-741-4400.
