Pedestrian Fatally Struck on LA Highway 93 in St. Landry Parish; Louisiana State Police Investigating Tragic Crash

St. Landry Parish, LA – July 3, 2025 — A tragic incident has left the St. Landry Parish community mourning after a pedestrian was struck and killed in a fatal crash currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop I. The accident occurred on the night of July 2, 2025, along Louisiana Highway 93 near Arnaudville, in the southern part of the parish.

According to preliminary reports from LSP Troop I, the pedestrian was walking in the southbound lane of the highway when they were struck by a 2015 Mazda CX-9. The vehicle was being driven by 32-year-old Cody Leger of Arnaudville, who remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities during the early stages of the investigation.

Troopers responded to the call around 10:40 p.m., arriving at a scene described as dark and lacking street lighting, which may have contributed to the collision. The pedestrian—whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin—was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office.

Initial findings suggest the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and walking in the roadway when they were hit. Toxicology samples were collected from both the driver and the pedestrian and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation. No impairment is suspected on the part of the driver at this time, and no citations have been issued, though the crash remains under active review.

Louisiana State Police emphasized the importance of pedestrian safety, particularly on rural roads and highways. “This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of how vulnerable pedestrians are, especially at night. We urge everyone walking along roadways to use sidewalks where available, wear reflective clothing, and stay alert,” said Trooper First Class Thomas Gossen in a statement released Thursday morning.

The loss has sent shockwaves through the Arnaudville and greater St. Landry Parish communities. Local residents expressed concern over the dangers of walking in poorly lit rural areas, calling for better infrastructure, signage, and public awareness.

Grief counselors and local clergy have offered their support to both the victim’s family and those affected by the traumatic scene.

As the investigation continues, the Louisiana State Police ask that anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident contact Troop I directly.

This fatal crash marks yet another in a series of tragic pedestrian-related incidents across the state in 2025, underscoring the importance of continued vigilance on roadways by both drivers and pedestrians alike.
